This week I posted a couple of polls on my X-account on the topic of transgender. Significant were the responses to the question, “Is a trans woman a woman?” As many as 2,908 people filled out a response, the vast majority of whom filled in “No, never.”
While this sample is of course anything but representative, the results do show that support for the idea that people can change gender is still very low among many Dutch people.
The responses to the statement, “I feel like a woke rainbow ideology is being forced upon me,” are also telling. An overwhelming majority of respondents felt that way.
This is no doubt related to the resistance to the topic of trans that many people feel. Coercion never benefits acceptance, and quickly leads people to ask critical questions instead. Can you actually change gender? Aren’t husband and wife simply fixed at birth?
To me, trans women are still real women, and trans men are still real men. Provided we first carefully diagnose them, provide good care and thus separate the wheat from the chaff.
Because it is clear to me that the trans movement is radicalizing. Trans- and non-binary-ness has become hype, leading all kinds of people to lay claim to the label “trans” who do not belong in that group at all.

The phenomenon of trans is of all times and all cultures. It really seems to belong to humans and many other animals. Gender and sexuality are among the most fundamental processes of existence. A phenomenon like trans naturally flows from these processes.
Life is always trying to stabilize into patterns. One such pattern is that people normally come as men and women, and men and women differ on a few fundamental things: biology, personality, qualities.
But life also always needs variety, diversity, alternation, differences, exceptions. Difference enables transformation and growth. Difference, then, is the oxygen of existence.

That is why there are strange boarders and variegated birds of paradise among people. They embody “being different” and come to bring differences.
LGBT is such a motley procession. Somehow it’s part of it, a small group doing things differently. They bring the diversity, color, variety. This gives some backlash to established norms, and that gives the community as a whole oxygen and innovativeness.
Most men are predominantly masculine in nature. Most women predominantly female. But all men also have feminine sides, and all women have masculine sides.

Then there are the minorities: male women and female men, even among heterosexuals. There is also gay, lesbian, bi, trans, intersex. Among these minority groups, the clear lines between men and women become diffuse here and there.
The problem with today’s woke rainbow religion is that there is actually too much focus on this diversity. Minorities are put under a magnifying glass, idealized, and made the norm. Everyone should be somewhere like them!
Thus a certain compulsion and a certain must in rainbow thinking creeps in. The agenda is not simply about acceptance of diversity being there, but about virtue and imposition of ideological wishful thinking about how diverse people should be.
The problem is that in this way facts and patterns that simply exist in reality are increasingly denied. Exactly like a religion.
Ordinary men and women should no longer be in the majority. Men may not be in certain things generally just better than women, and vice versa.
Biology is no longer allowed to simply dictate certain things: everything must be malleable and bendable to the dogmas of politically correct religion. Differences that are simply there are erased and replaced by compelling wishful thinking with a thick layer of decency.

Before you know it, someone has been hurt, offended and you have contributed to microaggression, discrimination or oppression. Before you know it, you have used the wrong word or are otherwise wrong and a bad person.
Do you find it crazy that under these circumstances the people raise the fat middle finger to anything that smells like rainbow? That people then just revert to XX and XY, and close their doors to everything else?
No, that’s not crazy, that makes perfect sense. And yet woke sees in this evidence of its own great rightness. “The people HATE diversity,” they sigh when they see the rainbow fatigue they themselves have caused. In this way, through worship of victimhood, the woke religion becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

To save the trans movement, the LGBT movement will have to face its own political correctness
Most people are quite willing to make room for diversity, and make room for deviations from the norm. But the rainbow world that woke so dreams of will never come if its own compelling religion is not looked at first. There will really have to be an end to stifling virtue thinking before emancipation can move forward.
That is why I am working with the Amsterdam Gender Theory Research Team (see: gender-theory.org) to develop a “middle of the road” gender theory that responds to the current polarization and extreme ideological positions in the “gender wars,” and that makes room for moderate and nuanced middle positions.
